Ustyuzhna

Ustyuzhna is an old town with a rich history, known for its merchant traditions and legends. It was here, according to one version, that Nikolai Gogol heard the story that inspired him to create the famous comedy “The Inspector”. The city has preserved the atmosphere of the old Russian province with cozy streets, merchant mansions and temples of XVII-XIX centuries.

Historical trade routes connecting Novgorod, Moscow and northern lands pass through the area, and the city itself attracts travelers with its cultural heritage and the opportunity to plunge into the real Gogol's atmosphere.
