Landscape Cultural and Historical Complex "Totma Salt"
The history of Totma is closely tied to the salt-making industry. The people of Totma achieved significant success in deep drilling, learning to create complex engineering structures for extracting deep brine: the so-called brine-lifting pipes.
After the decline of the salt-making industry in Totma at the end of the 19th century, the area where the saltworks was located languished in a landscape-historical sense for a long time. Part of the former saltworks territory was built over.
At the initiative of the Totma Museum Association and the "Salt of the Earth" Foundation for the Development of Public Initiatives, important steps were taken in 2020-22 to save the oldest industrial zone in the region as part of the "The Pipe Calls!" project, which received support from the Presidential Grants Foundation three times.
