National Park "Russian North"
National Park "Russian North"
National Park "Russian North" is a specially protected natural area. The park covers an area of 168,000 hectares. The national park serves to preserve the unique natural landscapes of the Vologda Lake District and the region's rich historical and cultural heritage.
Running through the park is the famous Northern Dvina Water System, built between 1825 and 1828 — a remarkable feat of engineering. It comprises five artificial canals and seven locks, and remains navigable to this day.
Since its establishment, the National Park has been an important centre for ecological and educational tourism. Within its territory, nature trails have been laid out, and both water and walking tourist routes have been developed. It is a truly unique natural, historical and cultural complex.
