Goritsy Monastery of Resurrection

It was founded in 1544 by Princess Yefrosinya Staritskaya, the widow of a relative uncle of Tsar Ivan IV the Terrible. At one time it was a place of exile for many representatives of noble families, including the Romanovs. In the 1930s the monastery was closed. Since 1999 the monastic life has been revived again.
